What to Expect
The Ijen Midnight Tour starts at 12:00 am. You will be picked up from your hotel in Banyuwangi by the shared transport. It’s a 40 minute drive uphill from Banyuwangi to the base of Ijen Volcano and the visitor centre. After checking into the visitor centre the guide will lead you on the climb up to the top of Ijen Volcano. It’s a one hour hike from the car park to the volcano summit.
When you have reached the summit of Ijen you will prepare for the descent into the crater. The path into the crater is narrow and you will need to pay attention as you climb slowly down towards the crater lake. If the wind is blowing towards you then you will need to cover your mouth with a cloth to reduce the effects of the sulphur smoke, which makes you cough.
From the bottom of Ijen Crater you can see the blue flames of Ijen. This is one of the highlights of the tour and is caused by the sulphur gas attaching alight as it leaves the vents at a temperature of more than 600 degrees celsius. After relaxing at the bottom of the crater you will climb back up the crater for sunrise. At the end of the tour your driver will drop you back off at your hotel in Banyuwangi.
The Ijen Midnight hike is one of the highlights of East Java. The blue flames, which occur naturally at Ijen, can only be seen in a few places in the world. This experience combined with the views of the turquoise lake and the crater covered in yellow sulphur makes the Ijen Tour an unforgettable experience. The only way to view the blue flames is on the Ijen Midnight Tours. Fill in the form below to book your Ijen Tour.

Greeting. We are interested in shared transportation to mt. Ijen. When we will be returning, at what time do we have to be at the vehicle? We don’t want to rush, so I’m curious to see if we can get everything done without a hurry. Also, can masks and lamps be rented from you and how much do they cost? Thanks, Ozren
Hi Ozren, I have sent an email to you. Hope you received it ok.
will you be running by august
Hi Mr. Nigel,
