In less than a year international flights will start to arrive in Labuan Bajo and I have a feeling that this town is set to explode onto the tourist scene. The setting is breathtaking (and this really isn’t an exaggeration). Padar and Komodo Island, home to the Komodo Dragons, are just a short boat trip away and you can easily do overnight trips to traditional villages like Wae Rebo. I could go on, but this list of things to do in Labuan Bajo will give you an idea on just how much the town has to offer. Of course I’d recommend visiting before the crowds come!

DYI: Best Budget Hotel in Labuan Bajo
One Tree Hill Hostel from $10 a Night (in a dorm)
If you are on a budget it’s a bit hard to find a really good budget hotel in Labuan Bajo (with a nice view). The best budget hotel in Labuan Bajo at the moment is One Tree Hill Hostel. It is a bit of a distance from the city center, but the location on the top of the hill is one of the things that make this hostel wonderful. Besides the view, the guests also like the hospitality and the cleanness of the hostel.
Pssstt … if you are really on a budget, check these options too: The Palm Komodo, Ciao Hostel, and Dorme Tree.
DYI: Best Mid Range Hotel in Labuan Bajo
Bintang Flores Hotel from $80 a Night
Bintang Flores Hotel is around 1.8km from the city center, a 20-minute walk (but wouldn’t really recommend you walk this route) or a 10-minute drive. Guests really love their comfy beds and the tasty breakfast at the hotel. Guests highlight the friendliness of the staff. Even though it is a beachfront hotel, swimming by the beach isn’t advisable, but they have a super nice pool area.
Bonus: Le Pirate Labuan Bajo from $35 a Night
Located in the centre of town and covering three floors, with a rooftop pool where you can watch movies, Le Pirate is one of the most happening hotels in Labuan Bajo. This beautiful property is shaking up the beach front and is hopefully an indication of the kind of hotels we can expect to see appearing in Labuan Bajo in the near future. You can find the website here. Definitely one of the best mid range hotels in Labuan Bajo!
DYI: Best Luxury Hotel in Labuan Bajo
Sudamala Resort Seraya from $268 a Night
The Sudalama Resort Seraya is an exclusive luxury resort with private bungalows on a private island. There are coral reefs surrounding the island where you can go snorkelling and the beaches are kept clean. The feedback on Agoda from previous guests is always positive with little to no criticism. Highlights include the friendly and attentive staff, relaxed atmosphere and good food. This is exactly the kind of place you should go if you just want to get away from it all. It is easily the best hotel around Labuan Bajo.

Green Hill Boutique Hotel from $32 a Night
Green Hill Boutique Hotel has the ambience of a boutique hotel. The hotel uses refurbished wood, which gives it an eco decor and the rooms offer beautiful views over the bay. It is conveniently located in the centre of town. The hotel is a favourite for travellers who are planning to do or returning from a live aboard trip to the Komodo National Park. Issues raised by previous guest who reviewed the hotel on Agoda include the slow Internet connection and that the rooms can be noisy (the hotel is close to the main road going through town).
Sunset Hill Hotel from $41 a Night
If a quiet hillside retreat is what you need to reinvigorate you, the Sunset Hill hotel is for you. The hotel offers rooms with balconies overlooking the bay and the views are fantastic. In fact the most common feedback about the hotel on Agoda is just how beautiful the views are! Other positive feedback includes the spacious rooms and comfortable beds. The main complaint about the hotel is the restaurant, which reviewers seem to agree is overpriced. Another thing to keep in mind is you can only get Wi-Fi in the restaurant.
Special shout out to La Boheme Bajo. It is not come with a beautiful view, but the hostel itself is so pretty. The room is basic (t has a dorm as well, suitable for a single/budget traveller), but the hostel has a great rating for its lovely staff!
Mohini Resort from $59 a Night
Mohini Komodo Resort is a relatively new hotel in Labuan Bajo. It is around a 15-minute drive to the center of Labuan Bajo. The hotel offers you a great view of the rolling hills. It is famous for its instagrammable setup, the bohemian vibe, and its beautiful pool. Definitely worth to try if you are into taking beautiful pictures during your holiday.
La Cecile Hotel & Cafe Komodo from $60 a Night
Some guests say that the rooms in this hotel need to be upgraded or better maintained. But I could say La Cecile is one of the best spots to see the sunset in Labuan Bajo. It’s a seven-minute drive from the hotel to downtown Labuan Bajo. Guests say that the employees at the hotel were very friendly and the hotel rate was comparable to the facilities.
Seaesta Komodo Hostel & Hotel from $63 a Night ($15 per bed in a dorm)
Seaesta is strategically located in the middle of Labuan Bajo. It is a short walk to the TPI Kampung Ujung, a great place to go if you fancy fresh seafood in the evening. Don’t expect a proper restaurant, you’ll find basic side street food stalls here (don’t worry it is tasty). The pool area of Seaesta is the nicest part, it overlooks the harbor. The hostel has private rooms and dorms. The dorm is spacious, each bed has a curtain (for a bit of privacy), individual light and outlets. They also provide water refill.
Ayana Komodo Resort from $225 a Night
Ayana group owns several properties in Indonesia, with hotels in Bali and Jakarta. The group is well known for the quality of its hotels. The Ayana Komodo Resort is a 5-star hotel on Waecicu Beach. It is far from downtown Labuan Bajo, but it seems you will not mind spending the whole time at the resort. Ayana Komodo is famous for its jetty pool, a great place to chill during your holiday in Flores. Also, Ayana also has AYANA Lako di’a. Phinisi ship that can be rented to explore the Komodo National Park. You can find the website here.
Plataran Komodo Beach Resort from $218 a Night
The Plataran Komodo Beach Resort is one of the best hotels in Labuan Bajo. The resort, located on Waecicu Beach, has beachfront villas and poolside villas. The setting is beautiful, the beach is kept clean and you can go snorkelling around the coral reefs in front of the resort. Guests compliment the location, facilities and the range of activities available. Two minor things that could be improved are the quality of the food (good, but not Michelin Star great) and the Wi-Fi, which is currently not available in the rooms.
