Thanks for visiting my blog.. Jakarta-Yogyakarta is a 45 minutes flight / around 7 hours by train. 5 days is more than enough to travel to Yogyakarta, see Borobudur (located in Magelang), Prambanan and some other temples around Yogyakarta, and travel back to Jakarta.
You should definitely come to Yogyakarta if you love temples!

I am arriving 3 pm and trying to find train schedules, i found two in two different sites with different timings…
I would like to go straight from the airport to the train station, if it is a hussle might have to settle for a domestic flight, Please advise…..

From the airport to train station, you can take a DAMRI bus. Probably around 2 hours, depends on the traffic in Jakarta (the bad thing is you can’t really predict about traffic in Jakarta). Or fly (I think Air Asia quite cheap) probably cost you around $30-40 one way.
Oh, best way to find information about train’s schedules is to call them +6221 121. They have service in English. 🙂

Your blog is amazing and is a very usueful source of information for me and my girlfriend who are planning to visit Indonesia where we will spend more than month in December and January this year.
Still, I have few questions regarding our trip. We have no definite plans yet, but there are things we would like to see, mostly in Moluccas and Raja Ampat. We would like to go to Ternate and spend some time in Halmahera Island, from where we would like to go island of Gebe and if possible, get to Waiego island group from there. Haven’t found lots of information about such possibilities, so I was wondering if that was possible to do at all.
We are budget travelers and we would like to spend as much time with local people as possible and stay away from western style hotels, food etc. I traveled this way in Papua New Guinea, Solomon Islands and Madagascar (spent more than half year this way) and have many friends there ever since, so hopefuly can make friends with locals in Moluccas and Raja Ampat as well. What do you think about such idea and what would you recommend us? Are there any useful information or websites (even in Indonesian language) regarding travel connections, “getting there” possibilities or so?

I never had a chance to try the Bus City Tour Jakarta. It was launched on Feb 24. Yes, it should be free for the first three months and the government later on will review it (to decide if it will still be free or not). It operates everyday from 9 am until 9 pm. The route goes from Hotel Indonesia (HI) round about – Sarinah – Nasional museum – Santa Maria shelter – Pasar Baru – Gedung Kesenian Jakarta (GKJ) – Istiqlal mosque – Istana Merdeka – Monas – Balaikota – Sarinah, and back to HI round about again. I think it has a hop on hop off policy.

Which one is that? Is it the “Things to do in Jakarta” article? Some of it need to take public transportation, but Monas, National monument, Istiqlal mosque and Cathedral are walking distance from one to another.

I’m from Australia and I stumbled across your blog while doing some research on visiting Jakarta and I’m so glad that I did. I will be turning 50 years in April 2015 and I plan on going to Jakarta on my own, some time this year to celebrate this milestone. I will be travelling on a budget and I want to meet a lot of local people. My great grandfather is Indonesian , so I hope I can do some research while over there. I’m not sure where to go and what to see, but your blog has given me some ideas.
I met some people from Jakarta through Facebook, about 3 1/2 years ago, and I am still in regular internet contact with them. One of the girls actually calls me ‘Mom’ and I hope to meet her while I am in Jakarta. I have read your article on the Baduy and would really appreciate your advice on the following: I have a friend who’s grandfather was also a Javanese. He came to South Africa about a hundred years ago and today his descendants – like my grandmother’s – are of course South Africans. My friend longs to know more about the country of his grandfather and has a special wish to visit the Baduy Dalam. Do you think it will be possible for him to visit them because of his antecedents? Or will he be seen as a foreigner? And, should he be able to go, do you know of someone to guide him to Ciboleger, as he doesn’t know Java?

There are some vegetarian restaurants in town, Loving Hut and Milas restaurant. I can’t recall any Indian restaurant (we had one back then, but it closed now), but I know one middle east restaurant called Golden Clopatra. They have a pretty tasty hummus.

But here’s the problem: every year I return, I see her beauty slowly but surely dying from all the plastic and rubbish that clogs her rivers and besmirches her emerald jungles.
I am sitting in Jogja while writing this message. I have decided that this year must be my farewell to this country of my heart. I cannot bare to see all this beauty gone forever.
You and your friends are the new generation. You are the hop e of your country’s future. It will be up to your generation and everyone who passionately loves this country to do something about her dying beauty.
I came across Firsta’s blog when I was planning a trip for me and my family to Yogyakarta and we are so glad that we did find Firsta!
She arranged our tour very well, she was very organized and accommodating!! She gave us a lot of very helpful advice in deciding on the attractions we are going to visit.
On the day of our arrival, she greeted us in the airport and introduced us to Riano, the driver who will be driving us during the tour. She arranged everything for us – the driver, the tours, the entrance fee, guide fee – EVERYTHING, so that you can just relax and have a good time. The price for the whole package is very reasonable!!
Our tour went very well, despite the fact that we made some changes to the itinerary due to our exhaustion. Firsta made sure that she coordinates with the driver and re-arrange the destination that we skipped.

Hi Firsta, I hope this write-up finds you well.
Together with my wife and a group of friends, we decided to go to Yogyakarta. We planned to climb Mt Merapi. Along the way there was alot of change of plans. Firsta stayed patient and accomodated to our changes such as adding passengers to the trip.
All in all, Firsta arranged for us a climb up Mt Merapi with experienced and professional guides, 1-day short trek of Gunung Api Purba(with guide) + Sri Gethuk Waterfall with guide too + Sandboarding to end of the day. The day after, we started early with Tembih Cycling tours. It was great experience cycling through the villages past rice fields and plantations. We even get to cuddle some goats too.
Each day and each instance, our drivers were punctual and right on time in picking us up from our hotel. I would like to commend and recommend Firsta when you travel to any part of Java. Thumbs up! Thank you Firsta!

My question is, I have an Indonesian passport but got wet and damaged. It is not expired yet but the immigration asked me to change and apply for a new one. I got mine when I lived in Jakarta. But now, I live in Bali. Do you know if there is an immigration in Bali where I can go? Is online application available? What is the process to get a replacement passport?

Yes, there is an immigration in Bali. And I think you can do online application (to make the appointment).
You still need to go to the office to drop off your documents and stuff.
I can understand why they ask you to get a new one. This is because the passport renewal and new passport application are very similar process.
