The Manohara Hotel Borobudur Sunrise Tour is one of the best ways to experience Borobudur temple. Arriving at Manohara Hotel just before dawn you are let into the Borobudur temple compound. You’ll be sitting at the top of Borobudur temple between the Buddha stuppas as the sun rises over the horizon. The view from the top of the temple over the surrounding countryside is beautiful. If you want to combine with Prambanan, at 9 am you’ll head from Borobudur to Prambanan. You’ll get dropped off back at your hotel in Yogyakarta at the end of the tour.
Through Manohara Resort is the only way you can visit Borobudur before sunrise. Our shared tour starts at around 4 am and you get back to Yogyakarta by 10 am. If you want to combine Borobudur with Prambanan you’ll be at your hotel by 1 pm. There are also regular tours leaving at 5 am and 8 am (obviously you’ll miss sunrise with these options). What to Expect
At the start of the Manohara Hotel Borobudur Sunrise Tour you will be picked up by private minivan from your hotel in Yogyakarta between 3:15 am–4:15 am. The journey to Manohara Resort, Borobudur takes approximately 40 minutes. Once you arrive at the Manohara Resort Hotel you will be allowed to enter the Borobudur temple complex.
The best place to watch sunrise is from the top of Borobudur temple. It’s a short walk from the Manohara Resort Hotel to the top of Borobudur temple. Arriving just before sunrise you have the chance to sit down and relax at the top of the temple. The sun will rise slowly from behind the hills over the horizon. If you are lucky it will be a misty morning, which is the best setting for a great photo.
Once the sun has risen you will have around 2 hours to explore the Borobudur temple complex. The temple is officially opened up to the public just after sunrise. After exploring Borobudur temple you will either return directly to Yogyakarta or go to Prambanan temple. If you go to Prambanan you have around 2 hours to explore this second temple. At the end of the tour you’ll get dropped off back at your hotel.
