I nearly can’t believe that it is the end of the first month of 2014. Time flies doesn’t it? At the start of this year I visited the Baduy tribe in Rangkasbitung, West Java. You can check my story here. Looking back to my journey in 2013, I am really grateful that I had a chance to see more about Indonesia, my beloved country. Some of the highlights are; the journey to Tana Toraja, discovering the best place to see the sunset in Java, a road trip from Yogyakarta to Labuhan Bajo, a chance to witness a great tradition in Ubud, and falling in love with Kuta!

This year, I decided to make an album on Discover Your Indonesia Facebook pageΒ that talks about accommodation around Indonesia. Well yes, there are a lot of accommodation review websites out there, but I do need to keep it all tracked and I know that it will be useful at some point in time. It is a simple recap of accommodation reference in Indonesia; consisting of accommodation details, short reviews and pictures. Btw, if you would like to contribute then feel free to do so. Share with me your favorite or even your worst experience! Send your pictures and details to [email protected] and I’ll put them on the album. To check the album, click here.

Talking about accommodation, I would like to review my favorite accommodation of 2013. The best accommodation! The one that won my heart is Jati Homestay in Ubud, Bali. Why do I love them? First, staying in Jati Homestay is like staying with locals. You need to pass through the family/owner area to be able to go to the home-stay. Probably some of you don’t really like it, but I think that is the best way, because you get to have a conversation with them. Start with a simple “Hello” or “Excuse me” then you will get a chance to do things that you won’t get at a regular hotel. Second, all the people in Jati Homestay are really friendly. I decided to give a hand making ‘Banten’ for Kuningan preparation. Triana (Dewa’s wife) and Dewa’s mother were super kind and answered all of my questions about ‘Banten’. Even if some of my questions were quite silly. Third, it is just a great place to stay! You get more than what you pay for! They serve tasty breakfast, the room is big and clean and the surroundings are pretty. Though it is located on the busy Hanoman street, it is really quiet and absolutely peaceful.
