Nusa Dua Bali is in the south of Bali and just a short 25-minute drive away from the Bali international airport. The area is famous for its golden sandy beaches and luxury five-star resorts. It is a pleasant area to stay around if you are visiting Bali for leisure.

I was lucky to be invited to Nusa Dua to review the Grand Mirage Resort. The resort is located on Pratama Street in Tanjung Benoa. Grand Mirage is a beachfront resort with in-house luxury spa, named Thalasso. I’ll tell you about the spa at the end of the article. The resort was built in 1993 and last renovated in 2011.

The Resort

The Grand Mirage Resort is one of those places that you’d go to relax, unwind and enjoy an all inclusive luxury holiday surrounded by fellow holidaymakers. The resort is really about the beach lifestyle. At the back of the hotel you’ll find the pools, with beachfront bars, great restaurants and rows of beach loungers by the Tanjung Benoa beach. It’s all there and provided for you so you can sit back, relax and just enjoy the tropical sunshine.

My favorite past was the Coconut Pool Bar by the main pool, where you can order special coconut cocktails and fresh young coconut from the palm trees around the Grand Mirage. There’s really nothing better than sitting in a pool while ordering drinks. It really gives you that holiday feeling.

While the Grand Mirage caters to the lazy holidaymaker, it also provides plenty of opportunities to be active. Along the beach you’ll find five aside football courts, volleyball courts, and the beach club… Which is another reason why people love Nusa Dua.

Their Romantic Ocean View Room

At the Grand Mirage Beach Club you can do all of your favorite watersports and fun water based activities. You’ve got the Sea walker, banana boat, kayak, windsurfing, and even catamaran. While I didn’t do the banana boat, I did spend an enjoyable hour out on a Catamaran.

The Room

I stayed in the Deluxe Ocean View Room, located on the 3rd floor. The room had a super king size bed with a very comfortable mattress. The design was tasteful. The furniture was modern and there was a Gambang (wooden Xylophone) on the wall that caught my attention.

One of my favorite things about the room was the view from the balcony directly overlooking the Indian Ocean. This beach front resort is perfect for leisure! From the balcony, you could look straight out at the pool, the sun loungers, sandy beaches and the ocean. It was a great way to wake up in the morning.

The All Inclusive Package

While many resorts offer the plus, plus experience (it’s what you’ll often see on the bill when the tax has been added), the Grand Mirage offers an all inclusive holiday package. These packages can include unlimited food, beverages and activities.

The food can be obtained from all of the restaurants at the Grand Mirage (and they have a lot). There’s the Grand Cafe, La Cascata, Jukung grill and also the Panorama Lounge. Oh yes, the Grand Cafe is open 24 hours! No worry for midnight food craving! The Grand Mirage also offers and all inclusive package that includes local beer, which is also an option.

With this all inclusive package, I can’t help to think that stay in Grand Mirage is probably similar with staying in a cruise ship. You can explore the resort safe in the knowledge that you don’t need to take your wallet out. You can enjoy your holiday and all of the activities that you can do within the ship or around it.

Common Areas and Activities

The Grand Mirage is a family friendly resort. There’s a children’s pool, a games room, a gym, mahjong room and even a karaoke area. There’s also a wedding chapel in case you want to have a wedding on the beach (when I stayed there was a wedding on the beach, the decoration was simply gorgeous).

Of course there are a lot of activities you can do within the resort. For example there are the Yoga classes that happen every morning at 9 am at the Chapel area, there are also organised sports, educational activities, Batik painting class, Bali Janur (young coconut leaves), weaving, fruit and vegetable carving and more besides.
Thalasso Spa and MassageThalasso Bali Spa

Thalasso Luxury Spa

I already said that staying at the Grand Mirage is like staying on a cruise ship, right? All you need for your relaxation and entertainment is available here. Thalasso Bali Spa is the in-house spa at the Grand Mirage.

Thalasso is special not just because of the service which includes traditional Asian-style massage, to modern and well-trained therapist with international standard, but the uniqueness of their treatment room. Thalasso has 16 uniquely designed treatment rooms with packages for couples and individuals. I tried their Aquamedic Pool and it was really relaxing. It is filled with sea water that is 38 degrees Celsius for relaxation and detox.

My Impression

I like the Grand Mirage Hotel. It’s the kind of place that will attract families with younger children and holidaymakers looking for a fun filled vacation. If you choose to you can join lots of activities, or alternatively you can just sit back and relax in one of the beachside deckchairs. Moreover everything is well maintained. The hotel grounds are really well kept and the rooms are modern and comfortable.

FYI
I was invited (September, 2015) to Grand Mirage Resort as a guest, however the views expressed in this article are, as always, my own opinion.
