Nusa Penida is one of the most favourite places that travellers like to explore. Whereas before, it was completely off the beaten track, now the island is certainly a lot busier. However, it still has the nice, old Bali-holiday vibe.

In case you didn’t know, Nusa Penida gained its fame after the pictures of Kelingking Beach (or the Dinosaur Beach) circulated on social media. When I first visited the island back in early 2017, it was still relatively empty. You can check out my 2d1n Nusa Penida itinerary recap here (if you have more time, though, I would recommend that you stay for at least two nights on the island. It is so much nicer to spend more time there).

In this article, I give recommendations for places to stay on the island, whatever your budget is. There are three budget classifications: budget (under 20 USD), mid-range (20-50 USD), and luxury (above 50 USD).

Note that the prices used in this article are based on the existing rates when I wrote this. You can access the booking sites (the links are available under each hotel) to check the prices on your visit date. Btw, here is a things-to-do-in-Bali article for first-timers!

Having said that, without further ado, let’s start the list.

Budget Hotels

GM Bungalow (starts from US$28)

budget hostel in Nusa Penida Bali

GM Bungalows is a budget hotel, but don’t be fooled by its price. The hotel has an extraordinary ambiance. It has a small garden in front of each room, which is primarily made of woven bamboo, straw, and wood. Even the furniture and walls are made out of these materials. There is a downside to this, though: since the walls are thin, you might able to hear the sounds/noises from the room next to you.

In each room, there is an air conditioning unit, a private bathroom, a patio, a flat TV screen, and a balcony with chairs. Each room also has a dressing table and wardrobe.

This hotel is strategically located in the middle of the village. From it, you have easy access to some warungs (local restaurants), and to Crystal Bay Beach, which is 6 kilometers away.

My Art Homestay (starts from US$16)

My art Homestay is a hotel in Nusa Penida that offers a swimming pool, bar, garden, pool view, and free Wi-Fi. Its rooms are basic, but are clean and spacious. Inside, you will see a flat-screen satellite TV, private bathroom, and a balcony with a wooden seat where you can enjoy your morning/afternoon with a cup of tea/coffee. Some rooms have direct access to the swimming pool. The hotel also has sun terraces.

Sampalan Harbor (one of the ports in Nusa Penida that serves routes to Bali mainland) is 1 km from the hotel. The hotel is also close to beaches such as Kutampi, Mentigi, and Sampalan. It is also very near Ped, where you can find many cafes and restaurants.

Deva Devi Beach Inn (starts from US$20)

best deal hostel nusa penida bali

Deva Devi Beach Inn is one of the well-known budget hotels in Nusa Penida. It has friendly and helpful staff. Some rooms have amazing views of the ocean, mountains, and gardens. You can also hear the sound of the waves from your room (which can be soothing for some people). If you want a tour, this hotel has a desk to help you with it. The hotel also offers tickets and currency exchange services.

Despite all the good things about this place, many guests said that it could improve its breakfast menu. The hotel is located at the Kutampi Beach, near the Sampalan Port. Mentigi Beach is a short 300-meter walk.

Setilas Bungalows (starts from US$ 18)

Setilas Bungalows is a cozy bungalow complex in the heart of Nusa Penida with spacious and comfortable rooms, a supportive and friendly host, and delicious breakfast pancakes. It is equally distant from both east and west Nusa Penida, making it a great base for exploring the island.

D’ Kubon Palace (starts from US$19)

D ‘Kubon Palace is also a budget accommodation but with a complete service. It has a free shuttle to the port, it can help you book some excursions, and tickets, and help you rent a motorbike/car. The hotel is said to offer a 24-hour service.

The rooms are pretty basic, but spacious for the price. Each one has a balcony, air conditioning, flat-screen TV and a private bathroom. The hotel has a swimming pool, which reminds me of Myart Homestay.

If you don’t fancy the swimming pool, though, you can walk to the beach. The hotel is 400 meters from Kutampi Beach and 700 meters from Mentigi Beach.

Mid-Range Hotels

The Somayan Bungalows (starts from US$28)

bungalow nusa penida

The Somayan Bungalows might not be in the best location in terms of its proximity to the island’s restaurants and cafes area, but the sunrise view from the bungalows is nice. The hotel has an outdoor swimming pool, an “infinity pool” overlooking the ocean. The room is basic and clean with a comfy bed and crisp bedsheet.

Although some guests said that the breakfast is repetitive, that can be overlooked because of the varied options the hotel offers—fresh fruits, pancakes or omelets—at a low rate.

This is a great choice if you don’t want to stay with the “crowd.” The place is located 1,2 km only from Pura Goa Giri Putri.

Kuri Garden Cottage (starts from US$39)

Kuri Garden Cottage is a charming cottage complex located in Nusa Penida, Indonesia. The cottages are big and nicely decorated, with everything you need for a comfortable stay. They have air conditioning, a refrigerator, a TV with Netflix, a kettle, towels that are soft and smell nice, toothpaste and toothbrushes, a hairdryer, and shampoo, shower gel, and conditioner. Kuri Garden Cottage is located in a quiet area, but still close to the beach, restaurants, and shops.

Govardhan Bungalow (starts from US$31)

Govardhan Bungalow is one of the best mid-range hotels in Nusa Penida. The professionalism and hospitality of the staff will make you feel at home. The hotel has a peaceful garden, outdoor pool, and sunbathing chairs. Its rooms are spacious and clean with simple and nice furniture.

As for the hotel breakfast, it is delicious. The hotel even has table chairs on the upper terrace so you can enjoy your meal as you stare out into the sea.

The hotel is located less than 2 km from the port of Sampalan. There are plenty of local restaurants in the area where the hotel is located.

Namaste Bungalows (starts from US$40)

namaste nusa penida

Although the hotel is located not far from Ped (city center), Namaste Bungalows has a soothing atmosphere. The hotel offers beautiful natural scenery. The roof and terrace are made of coconut wood, the furniture is made from recycled and reconditioned wood, and its restaurant has a forest view.

The hotel rooms are spacious, each with air conditioning/fans, a terrace overlooking the garden, table, wardrobe, and a private bathroom. Despite its nature concept, Namaste Bungalows has an outdoor swimming pool, a place for sunbathing, and a playground for children. If you are tired, the hotel also offers massage services.

The downside? Some customers complained about the Wi-Fi connection (although I would have to argue that a holiday is better spent without Wifi). Some people also said that the hotel’s room cleanness can be improved. Namaste Bungalows is quite close to some tourist attractions, such as Crystal Bay Beach (my favourite beach in Nusa Penida), Gamat Bay, Ceningan Cliff, and Manta Bay snorkeling spot.

Ring Sameton Resort Hotel (starts from US$32)

A bit tucked away from the main road, Ring Sameton Resort Hotel is the right choice for peace and quiet in Nusa Penida.

This hotel in Nusa Penida has large rooms, huge comfy beds with great pillows, air conditioning, a TV, a safety box, and private bathrooms with a hot shower. This hotel also has a lovely outdoor pool and gardens with lots of trees where sometimes you can hear the sounds of the birds.

The staff is fantastic and very responsive. The hotel’s breakfast buffet is not too varied, though, but you can order other dishes with a small extra charge.

From Ring Sameton Resort, it will only take you 25 minutes to get to Crystal Bay by car. The hotel is also quite close to the Dalem Ped Temple.

Luxury Hotels

Coco Resort Penida (starts from US$64)

Coco Resort Penida is one of the best luxury hotels in Nusa Penida. The resort has natural materials as its roof and walls. However, this means that the walls are quite thin, so you may hear sounds from the outside from inside your room. Bring earplugs if you are a light sleeper. Coconut trees and tropical gardens also surround the resort.

The hotel’s bungalows are spacious and clean, and some have a terrace with mountain views. There is a restaurant, Coco Resto, which serves fancy Indonesian and international dishes. The resort also offers various water sports facilities.

The resort sits in a quiet location and is quite close to Crystal Bay beach, which is 3 minutes away by car or 20-30 minutes by foot. If you want to go to Sanur Port, it is only a 30-minute boat ride from the resort.

La Roja Bungalows (starts from US$60)

pretty hotel in nusa penida

La Roja Bungalows only has seven rooms in total, which can mean total privacy. All the rooms overlook a small swimming pool in the middle of the property. The swimming pool is equipped with chairs and umbrellas for relaxing and sunbathing.

The cottages are Instagrammable, as they come with a simple beautiful design. Some customers complained, however, that the Wi-Fi was sometimes not working.

The bungalows serve a simple breakfast. You can, however, ask for a “floating breakfast service,” which is good for pictures.

This hotel is not too far from Batununggul Rastafara Beach and Sampalan Beach. It is also close to the Sampalan Port.

Kompyang Cottage (starts from US$78)

honeymoon hotel nusa penida

Kompyang Cottages is a beautiful luxury hotel in Nusa Penida. It is surrounded by plants and trees, and that creates a peaceful atmosphere. Each room has a balcony with garden views. The bathroom is a Balinese style open bathroom. Most of the room furniture used is made of wood. There is a small outdoor swimming pool with chairs for sunbathing or relaxing.

This cottage provides a delicious American-style breakfast and provides options for breakfast on the terrace or at the pool (floating breakfast! It is a trend).

Kompyang Cottages is quite close to the Sampalan port. Some beaches like Batununggul Rastafara Beach, Sampalan Beach, and Mentigi Beach are within walking distance.

Semabu Hills Hotel Nusa Penida (starts from US$140)

Semabu Hills Hotel Nusa Penida is a luxury hotel that offers incredible views. The atmosphere is relaxing. You can stay at a large and spacious infinity pool and view the Bali ocean and Mount Agung from a distance while waiting for sunset or sunrise.

The room is spacious and well-equipped. It has large windows so you’ll have the view of the mountain and the sea.

You can ask for your breakfast to be delivered to your room or eat at a restaurant while enjoying the breathtaking view outside.

The hotel offers a free shuttle service to Crystal Bay Beach 2 times a day, at 10 am and 1 pm. This hotel is also close to Toyapakeh Beach and Nusapenida White Sand Beach.

The Angkal Boutique Seaview Villas (starts from US$94)

The Angkal Boutique Seaview Villas is a luxury hotel in the eastern part of Nusa Penida. The hotel has an infinity pool overlooking the ocean. There are also table chairs and swings on the hotel terrace overlooking the sea, the perfect place to see the sunrise.

Each hotel room is not too spacious but neat, and the furniture is beautiful and well organized. If you are too lazy to go outside, you can already see the ocean view once you open the door to your room. The safety box is in the room. There is also a bar that directly faces the ocean.

This resort is the right choice because it is located near so many tourist attractions. Such as Giri Putri Cave, Teletabis Hills, Manta Point Nusa Penida, and Saren Cliff Point.
