I’m happy to announce that I can offer any DYI readers who want to stay at JogjaDreams a special discount rate. Find out more at the end of the post. But first, let me share with you my review.
I want to tell you about one of my favourite small Bed and Breakfast home stays in Yogyakarta. This is something that is really quite special and has a personal touch.
“Hallloooo!” Nonie half of the owner of JogjaDreams opens her house’s door and greets me passionately. Very welcoming and friendly. Just the kind of welcome travellers need.
JogjaDreams is one of the hidden gems when it comes to accommodation in Yogyakarta. This place, which in TripAdvisor is under specialty lodging category, is located in the South part of the city and walking distance to the Yogyakarta Royal palace. I would say that they have a great location, close to Prawirotaman and Tirtodipuran street, which are streets that you can find loads of nice restaurants and some art spaces.
No need to worry about your night rest quality. The bed and breakfast is tucked away from the main road so a peaceful night is a guarantee.
The homestay has two rooms, yes literary only two rooms, Merapi room and Bromo room. The only difference between the rooms are the size of the room and the size of the bed. Merapi room is 17m2 and has a queen size bed, meanwhile the Bromo room is 23m2 and has a king sized bed. Each room comes with a private bathroom with hot/cold shower.
There are a lot of great things about JogjaDreams. Besides the host you have fast broadband, which is great. Another big plus for me is the house plan. The design is very homey and ‘natural’. You will see a lot of bamboo, bricks and plants in their house. Basically JogjaDreams is open planned with a friendly atmosphere. The air circulation is also fantastic (you’ll get me when you are enjoying the common areas).
Bed and Breakfast
I stayed in the Merapi room and the bed has a good quality mattress with clean cotton sheets. The breakfast that Nonie provided was also a highlight. When I stayed I got a a bowl of delicious Nasi Soto, fruit platters and orange juice. Tasty breakfast I should tell ya! If you are planning to stay at JogjaDreams for more than one night, be ready for great surprises on the breakfast menu. I think Nonie likes to provide a different breakfast each day for the guests.
The common area is too easy to fall in love with. Like I said before, it is airy and has a different style than most of hotels, the kind of style that I really like. There is a mini library, shared kitchen with small stove and fridge, and a seating area. You can get tea, coffee and water free anytime you want and other drinks in the fridge that you can pay for (just note down whatever you take).
Here is a map to JogjaDreams:
Jalan Suryodiningratan, Gang Subarman 645A, Yogyakarta 55141, Indonesia
Rates (valid until April 2015):
Merapi room: Rp. 285,000
Bromo room: Rp. 310,000
If you are looking for a friendly homestay Jogja Dreams is a great choice. It is located close to the main tourist area of Yogyakarta, though it is tucked away on a residential street. If you take a five minute walk you will find plenty of nice restaurants and places to eat. One thing I really like about Jogja Dreams is that the limited number of rooms creates a nice friendly atmosphere for guests staying here.
