Before I go to my review of Gallery Prawirotaman Hotel, let me explain a bit about tourists area in Jogjakarta. Prawirotaman and Malioboro are the two most popular areas of Jogjakarta with tourists. Personally I prefer Prawirotaman. It’s less crowded than Malioboro, the restaurants are great and there are plenty of bars and cafes.
Just to be clear. There are actually four streets called Prawirotaman in Yogyakarta. They are all parralel to one another. Prawirotaman street that I want to talk about is Prawirotaman 2 street. That’s where you find Gallery Prawirotaman Hotel.
If you are looking for 3 star hotel with 4 star service then Gallery Prawirotaman Hotel is one of the best hotels to stay in Prawirotaman area. I am not lying, go check out their great review score on TripAdvisor. 😉

Ok, to start the review of Gallery Prawirotaman Hotel, let’s talk about the building and the room. Gallery Prawirotaman Hotel is a huge colonial style hotel. It is a 5 storeys building, facing the north or I can say facing Merapi volcano. I stayed in a Deluxe King room on the first floor. The room is spacious, clean and simple.
The bed is big, the mattress comfortable and the white linen is crisp. Oh their bed is good! The room has the amenities of a 4 star hotel (yes, they provide the hair dryer too, by request). My room was facing the children’s pool. It was nice, but I wish I had direct access from my room to the pool.
What do you wish for when your staying at a hotel in a tropical country? A swimming pool? Gallery Prawirotaman has two; one adult pool and one pool for children.
Hoping for spa and massage? Relax, the Gallery Prawirotaman Hotel has got that covered as well. Either it is a traditional massage with aromatic oil, foot and back massage or even a traditional scrub and herbal bath. They also have a public area on the fifth floor and guests are welcome to go there to enjoy a birds view of Jogjakarta.
If you are lucky, when the sky clear you’ll be able to see mount Merbabu and Merapi volcano from the roof of the hotel. The public room on the fifth floor also functions as a gallery. When I was staying at the hotel, there were a painting exhibition featuring local artists.
I think Gallery Prawirotaman Hotel is a great choice for people visiting the city. I am adding this to my list of recommended hotels for anyone coming to Yogyakarta. The rooms are nice, the service is good and the location is great. While I did like the breakfast, it is a buffet breakfast. Some of the dishes are really tasty, but I prefer to order my own food rather than having a pre-made buffet.
There are a lot of things I like about Gallery Prawirotaman. The location is super convenient and there are lots of nice restaurants to eat and places to visit close by. The rooms are also spacious and comfortable. I think the hotel is a nice option for people who want to stay in a comfortable hotel and are willing to pay for it. I hope you found this review of Gallery Prawirotaman Hotel useful. Last but not least, I love the fact that Gallery Prawirotaman Hotel keeps the big tree in front of the hotel. It makes the hotel look and feels so much nicer.
Discover Your Indonesia was invited to Gallery Prawirotaman Hotel to make this review, however my opinion is, as always, my own 🙂
