In less than a year international flights will start to arrive in Labuan Bajo and I have a feeling that this town is set to explode onto the tourist scene. The setting is breathtaking (and this really isn’t an exaggeration). Padar and Komodo Island, home to the Komodo Dragons, are just a short boat trip away and you can easily do overnight trips to traditional villages like Wae Rebo. I could go on, but this list of things to do in Labuan Bajo will give you an idea on just how much the town has to offer. Of course I’d recommend visiting before the crowds come!

Bajo View from $15 a Night
If you are on a budget it’s hard to find a really good budget hotel in Labuan Bajo. The best budget hotel in Labuan Bajo at the moment is Bajo View. The hotel offers basic accommodation with beds in an open tent with a mattress on the floor and a fan to keep you cool. You will not want to spend much time in your room. Luckily the hotel is close to the harbour and you get great views from the restaurant during the day.
DYI: Best Mid Range Hotel in Labuan Bajo
Le Pirate Labuan Bajo
Unfortunately it’s not listed on Booking or Agoda, but a list of the best hotels in Labuan Bajo would not be complete without Le Pirate. Located in the centre of town and covering three floors, with a rooftop pool where you can watch movies, Le Pirate is one of the most happening hotels in Labuan Bajo. This beautiful property is shaking up the beach front and is hopefully an indication of the kind of hotels we can expect to see appearing in Labuan Bajo in the near future. You can find the website here. Definitely the best mid range hotel in Labuan Bajo!
DYI: Best Luxury Hotel in Labuan Bajo

Seraya Hotel and Resort from $276 a Night
The Seraya is an exclusive luxury resort with private bungalows on a private island. There are coral reefs surrounding the island where you can go snorkelling and the beaches are kept clean. The feedback on Agoda from previous guests is always positive with little to no criticism. Highlights include the friendly and attentive staff, relaxed atmosphere and good food. This is exactly the kind of place you should go if you just want to get away from it all. It is easily the best hotel around Labuan Bajo.

Green Hill Boutique Hotel from $35 a Night
Green Hill Boutique Hotel has the ambience of a boutique hotel. The hotel uses refurbished wood, which gives it an eco decor and the rooms offer beautiful views over the bay. It is conveniently located in the centre of town. The hotel is a favourite for travellers who are planning to do or returning from a live aboard trip to the Komodo National Park. Issues raised by previous guest who reviewed the hotel on Agoda include the slow Internet connection and that the rooms can be noisy (the hotel is close to the main road going through town).

Sunset Hill Hotel from $37 a Night
If a quiet hillside retreat is what you need to reinvigorate you, the Sunset Hill hotel is for you. The hotel offers rooms with balconies overlooking the bay and the views are fantastic. In fact the most common feedback about the hotel on Agoda is just how beautiful the views are! Other positive feedback includes the spacious rooms and comfortable beds. The main complaint about the hotel is the restaurant, which reviewers seem to agree is overpriced. Another thing to keep in mind is you can only get Wi-Fi in the restaurant.

Sylvia Hotel & Resort Komodo from $50 a Night
The Sylvia Hotel & Resort compound on Waecicu Beach is one of those hotels that guests either love or hate (you’ll quickly realise this once you start to read the reviews on Agoda). First the positive; the hotel is located outside of Labuan Bajo and the setting is really beautiful. It’s the kind of place you go to relax away from it all. On the downside many reviewers complain about the poor management, need for extensive staff training and overpriced restaurant. If you just want to get away from it all and you don’t mind the bumbling staff you will like this hotel, otherwise there are better options in this budget range.

Puri Sari Beach Hotel from $60 a Night
Puri Sari Hotel is one of the nicest beachside resorts around Labuan Bajo. The hotel is a 15 minute drive outside of Labuan Bajo and there is a free shuttle to take you into town. Reviews on Agoda highlight the friendly staff, which are seen as the biggest asset of the hotel, and the great facilities. This includes the beachside swimming pool and free use of kayaks. A common complaint is the trash on the beach. This is a general issue around Labuan Bajo, though the staff do clean the beach just in front of the hotel.

Laprima Hotel Flores from $70 a Night
Last time I visited Labuan Bajo I stayed in Laprima. It’s a nice hotel that has all the facilities that you’d expect from a hotel in this budget range. It’s also popular with tour groups, which is why it’s on the list. Yet the hotel is missing something (I think it’s a soul!). One of the big problems is the location. Laprima is quite far out of the centre of Labuan Bajo and there is no free shuttle. The restaurant is not very good either. Despite the good rating I’d recommend skipping this hotel and finding something closer to the center of town.

Luwansa Beach Hotel from $107 a Night
The Luwansa Beach Hotel is a small resort with 34 rooms, a swimming pool, bar and restaurant serving international food. The highlight of the hotel though is the views. Guests who have left reviews on Agoda compliment the well designed and comfortable rooms. Guests criticise the location though, the hotel is quite far outside of town and the free shuttle stops running at 8pm. The restaurant is also very expensive and you can find trash on the beach.

Plataran Komodo Beach Resort from $249 a Night
The Plataran Komodo Beach Resort is one of the best hotels in Labuan Bajo. The resort, located on Waecicu Beach, has beachfront villas and poolside villas. The setting is beautiful, the beach is kept clean and you can go snorkelling around the coral reefs in front of the resort. Guests compliment the location, facilities and the range of activities available. Two minor things that could be improved are the quality of the food (good, but not Michelin Star great) and the Wi-Fi, which is currently not available in the rooms.
